12 Week 49 - MENANG Has Just Started

Seemingly I'll be going to Hospital Selayang in these two weeks, as pain clinic is conducting a program called MENANG. MENANG is an intervention for people living with chronic pain. Some people's functioning has been affected due to chronic pain, as they keep themselves passive and rely on medications to cope with pain. The main objective of MENANG is to help them gain back their functioning by teaching them adaptive coping strategies and reducing their medications.

I would say this program is quite intensive. There will be a series of psychoeducation sessions conducted by pain specialists, clinical psychologists, and physiotherapies for the group of participants. The participants will learn about pain management strategies from the sessions. On the practical side, they will be doing exercises to strengthen their muscles and to improve their pain tolerance. All these things are done in two weeks.

This time we are conducting the 21st group of MENANG, and Shawn is going to lead many sessions. He feels quite stress, but it would make him performs well :-) JengMun and I are just observing, sometimes we help in videotaping the sessions, so both of us are quite relaxed most of the time. I've learned something new while observing the sessions, although it has just been two days (eight days to go).

Anyway, I think my work in pain clinic will end with this program. I'll treasure my experiences for these final two weeks.

Two weeks. Hmm.
